USB Network Drivers

USB Network Drivers makes connecting a physical network or wireless network as easy as connecting a thumb-drive. The Universal Serial Bus, first developed in 2000, arrived in the US market via IBM as the now famous thumb-drive. These devices utilized existing technology such as EEPROM’s to provide customers with a technology that allowed reads and writes of data to very small storage devices that were mobile and durable. Over time and with the creation of USB 2.0, these storage devices increased from a few megabytes to upwards of 256 GB.

Current operating systems such as Windows and Mac support USB devices and allow data transfers that are much larger than optical devices such as CDs. The advantage for USB devices is the absence of internally moving parts, having only chips, as compared to hard drives.

The USB technology has grown to include other adapters due to the bandwidth that most USB adapters can support. In fact, data speeds on many USB ports can support network and external data storage. USB Network Drives adapt USB ports to Ethernet and other network protocols. After installing the appropriate network adapter in a USB port, such as Ethernet, and the correct USB Network Driver, a computer can connect to a hardwired or wireless network. Such an option is good for computers that may not have network cards or that must support multiple network protocols and no available expansion slots.

Troubleshooting the USB Network Driver

First, check the windows system event viewer for system errors that relate to driver incompatibility. This may be the first signal of a problem. If no error exists, open the hardware manager console and check for conflicts. Windows may not report an error, so it is best to check the version of each driver, both for the USB device and the network protocol, which is typically TCP/IP. The out-of-the-box version of Windows may not be compatible with the new USB Network Driver and may require updates from the manufacturer.

If the problem persists, the driver files may be corrupted. Reinstall the USB Network Drivers and contact the driver manufacturer for any known compatibility issues or upgrades that may be available. It may be necessary to uninstall the driver and return the system to a sane point and incrementally apply the driver updates, testing at each point, until an anomaly is identified.
