WLAN Drivers

The Wireless Local Area Network or WLAN in its abbreviated form is an integral part of many computers and laptops. It is more common to find WLAN products installed into a laptop as part of a mobile internet and communications facility, the device has the ability to send and receive wireless signals allowing the user to share an internet connection at a hotspot or at home. WLAN also has the ability send wireless signals if the user needs to share information.

Security is more than just important if a computer is using WLAN to access the internet or send information, which is why it is necessary to keep on top of the security features and settings of the device.

WLAN Drivers are also crucial to the devices functionality, if for any reason your WLAN fails and begins registering errors it is important that you are able to fix the issue in order to continue wireless internet access.

An internet user does not want any information leaking out into the wrongs hands from their internet connection, and also does not want anybody hacking into their computer via shared file access.

There are various methods of keeping tabs on WLAN Security, here are a few:

• If you are surfing the internet in a public location you should disable file sharing options through the Network and Sharing Center.

• Make sure your WLAN is fully updated with all the latest security updates from the manufacturer’s website, also keep your operating system updated through ‘Automatic Updates’.

• If you are using a network between computers such as using an internet signal via a wireless router, or sharing a connection via ad-hoc (computer to computer) then you should have your WLAN security center set with a password using WEP or WPA encryption.

If your security fails for any reason then you will need your WLAN Driver to fix any issues, usually best sorted out by doing a complete reinstall of the WLAN Device by removing your WLAN device and uninstalling the driver software/firmware – reinstall the WLAN software/firmware using the WLAN driver disk, if your device is ‘Plug and Play’ all you will need to do is reattach your WLAN to your computer.

My WLAN device is not recognized by ‘Plug and Play’ and/or do not have a WLAN Driver disk?

If you do not have a valid WLAN Driver or a backed up copy on your computer do not despair, the chances of a WLAN Drive being found as a free download online is quite high.

You will need to know the manufacturer and the model version of the WLAN device, and then all you have to do is search online for your particular WLAN Driver download and install it on your computer.

Your WLAN device should not be attached to your computer before you install any WLAN Driver software unless otherwise stated in any manufacturer instructions you follow from the website you download the driver from.

The best place to start in your quest for a WLAN Driver for your particular device is the manufacturers’ website.

Remember you will also need to use the correct WLAN Driver for your operating system such as Vista.

If you are still experiencing problems after performing any or all of the above, then you should contact the manufacturer to see if there is any advice the can give you. If you still have a warranty on your device take it back to the store you got it from as it may need replacing.
